Common Questions and Answers About Spa Ownership
- How do I fill my new tub?
- We have found garden hoses work best. Actually if you could talk the fire department in coming over, you can fill it faster – but they just don’t consider that an emergency anymore. Just remember this – DO NOT fill it until an electrician has hooked up the electronics. At certain times of the year, you could own the worlds largest ice tray.
- Can I put my Hot Tub inside my house?
- Yep, while a Hot Tub is built to be outdoors, you can put it indoors. Here’s the deal though – you need to make sure the floor can handle the weight. Hot Tubs can weight up to 5000 lbs.. While you thought a Hot Tub in the Den made sense – without proper support it could move itself to the basement all by itself. Also – you need to make sure the walls can handle the moisture. Meaning you will need to paint the walls and ceiling with bathroom paint. Always remember – towel racks in the living room ARE NOT a fashion statement.
- Are Hot Tubs hard to clean?
- Nope, you will want to drain your spa 3 or 4 times per season, scrub it out and add new water. Sure, Hot Tubs have filters as well as chemicals that do their jobs. But do the math – if you had filters and chemicals in your bathtub – would you jump in 4-month-old bath water. OK then – keep you spa clean and enjoy.
- Does the water freeze in the winter?
- Hot Tubs are designed to keep water flowing 24 hours per day with 1 sometimes 2 thermostats that keep water within 1 to 3 degrees of your setting even if you’re in it. One little disclaimer – if it’s December 12th, and you’re in Minneapolis and you don’t pay your gas bill – well – add a frozen hot tub to your list of problems.
- Does my Used Hot Tub have a warranty?
- It has the 10 & 10 warranty, 10’ or 10 minutes whichever comes first. Heck, I’m only kiddin – just love that expression. Seriously, most if not all will not have a factory warranty. In most cases, the manufacturers will not allow one owner to transfer remaining warranties to a new owner. We think that’s dumb – but who are we. UsedSpaLot has links to extended warranty providers. If you are spending a few thousand on a hot tub, we would suggest you spend a few hundred more to protect it.
- What is the best Hot Tub?
- Like cars, boats and shoes – you get what you pay for. There are over 130 manufacturers of Hot Tubs. Some are price leaders some are technology leaders. In Hot Tubs as in life – if it appears to good to be true it probably is.
- Are Hot Tubs hard to repair?
- Yes and No – answer this honestly; when you put together a swing set, lawn mower, picnic table or Big Wheel, were their parts left over? If you honestly answered – “it wasn’t my fault they gave me too many screws”, then call a repairman. UsedSpaLot will soon have a Service Tech Locator on the site. On the other hand, if you own the Craftsman 9000 tool set and know the difference between “Input and Output”, you can probably do some of the work yourself, your call.
